SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Joanna Smith had another strong second half performance and registered a double-double, however the Covenant women's basketball team came up short in a 69-63 loss at Sewanee on Thursday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Scots came out firing in the first minute of the third quarter. Covenant forced two turnovers and made its first three shots to begin the quarter and take a 33-29 lead. A Bekah Walter layup, off a Smith steal, capped the run the spurt in the first 31 seconds of the quarter.

A Smith bucket in the early moments of the final quarter cut the deficit back down to one. Smith scored the first eight points as Covenant crept to within two at 55-53, but Sewanee extended its lead to 60-53 with 4:25 left after a Kinsley Logan jumper.

Down 64-57 with 32 seconds left, Hallmark drained a pair of 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 65-63 with 18 seconds left. Sewanee iced the game at the free throw line as the Tigers made four straight in the final 15 seconds to seal the win.
