Women's Basketball Gains Three Commitments

Women's Basketball Gains Three Commitments

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball program has announced the addition of three newcomers who have submitted their deposit to attend Covenant College, with the intent to play for the Scots and head coach Sarah Harris in the 2016-17 season.

"With everyone returning from last season's team, we were very selective in recruiting players who would continue to help this program in its growth and heighten the talent in our program," Harris noted about her recruiting class. "This class brings a combination of size, success, and basketball skill that will blend nicely with our returning players."

Added Harris, "More than anything, when we are recruiting, we seek people who will add to the Christian community and high academic environment at Covenant. This is a group of talented basketball players, but they're also women of great Christian faith and integrity who we look forward to including in this team."

Emma Grimes - Melbourne, Fla. - Eastern Florida State College

Emma Grimes is a 5-foot-7 guard who averaged 9.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game last season while helping Eastern Florida State College win a Southern Conference championship. The All-Southern Conference honoree made 73 3-pointers on the season. During her prep career at Covenant Christian, Grimes was a two-time All-Brevard County selection, led Brevard County in scoring her senior year (22.4 points per game), and set the school career scoring record with 1,498 points.

"With such a young team last season, one of the elements our team lacked was on-court maturity. Emma comes to Covenant having played two years of college basketball at a high level," Harris said. "She is a knock-down shooter with a scorer's mentality, but she also has a tremendous understanding of the game overall."

Margo Koby - St. Louis, Mo. - Westminster Christian Academy

Margo Koby is a 5-foot-10 forward who was a four-year member of the Westminster varsity basketball team and served as captain her junior and senior years. Koby played a part in Westminster reaching the Missouri Class 4 District championships in her sophomore and junior seasons.  A three-sport athlete in her prep career, Koby also was a member of the tennis and lacrosse teams at Westminster.

"Margo brings an athleticism and passion that will help us, particularly around the basket," Harris said. "I love her work ethic and look forward to seeing her continue to develop as post presence for us."

Aleksandreja Kulits - East Bend, N.C. - Forsyth Home Educators

Aleksandreja Kulits is a 6-foot-1 forward who averaged 18.9 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game for the FHE Hawks while helping her team achieve a 38-2 record. Kulits was previously a teammate of current Scot sophomore Grace Potter, as a member of the Carolina Cougars.

"Aleksandreja simply makes her presence known on the court because she is so active in every aspect of the game," added Harris. "Her length allows her to be effective defensively and she can finish at the rim, but she's also a skilled passer, possesses shooting range, and has the ability to put the ball on the floor."
