LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Two Covenant women's basketball plays from 2015-16 are in the running to be named USA South Play of the Year. Aleigha Williams' last second shot in the second quarter against Averett on Feb. 5 and Joanna Smith's driving layup vs. Berry on Nov. 13 are the two candidates.
Voting is done exclusively by fans and will conclude on Tuesday, March 15 at 12 p.m. when the winner will be announced.
Williams' runner was voted as the February Play of the Month, while Smith's layup was the November winner. The two plays are up against Piedmont (December winner) and Maryville (January winner).
The USA South Athletic Conference introduced a new endeavor for the 2015-16 women's basketball season as each month a "Women's Basketball Play of the Month" was chosen. For each of the four months during the regular season, dynamic plays were submitted by the coaching staffs of each institution. The winners were chosen by online voting and featured both on the USA South website and its social networking outlets (Twitter / YouTube /Instagram). Now, each monthly winner is nominated for USA South Women's Basketball Play of the Year.
