STAUNTON, Va. -- The Covenant women's basketball team received a double-double from Rachel Price and 16 points from Aleigha Williams as it cruised past USA South foe Mary Baldwin 76-58 on Thursday night.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but was moved up with the threat of significant snowfall in Virginia over the weekend.
Price recorded her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Williams paced the Scots with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Bekah Walter added 14 points and five rebounds in the win. Joanna Smith chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The victory for Covenant (5-9, 3-4 USA South) is the third in the last four games. Mary Baldwin (0-16, 0-8 USA South) remains winless on the year.
Covenant held a slim lead for much of the first half. The Scots went into halftime with a 45-34 lead thanks in large part to Price's play. The junior forward tallied 13 points, 10 of which came in the second quarter, and 10 rebounds in the first half alone.
The Scots continued to build their lead in the second half and led by as many as 24 early in the fourth quarter.
Covenant shot a season-best 48.5 percent (33-of-68) while attempting just six 3-pointers -- making four of those. The Scots held a 44-14 edge in points in the paint, while also maintaining a 55-31 rebounding advantage. Covenant forced the host Fighting Squirrels into 15 turnovers and converted those into 20 points.
Mary Baldwin was led by Kaybria Johnson's 19 points. Teanna Peavy posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Juanaysa Singletary poured in 13 points. The Fighting Squirrels shot just 30.9 percent (21-of-68) from the field.
