LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Rachel Price and Joanna Smith each tallied double-doubles, but the Covenant women's basketball team could not overcome a slow first half in a 70-46 loss to Piedmont on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.
Price picked up her first career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go allowing with three steals and a block. Smith notches her fourth double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The loss is the fourth straight for Covenant.
Covenant (2-8, 0-3 USA South) struggled again in the first two quarters as Piedmont built a 38-14 lead at halftime. The Scots played even with the visiting Lions in the final two periods and outscored Piedmont 18-12 in the fourth quarter.
Le'Shaunda Jones had 17 points and five steals to lead Piedmont (8-4, 3-0 USA South), while Taylor Swoszowski added 12 points. Bridgette Kelly dished out a team-high four assists. The Lions shot 41.4 percent (29-of-70) from the field with eight 3-pointers.
Covenant outrebounded the Lions 49-39 and scored 16 second-chance points off 20 offensive rebounds. The Scots shot 48.3 percent (14-of-29) in the second half, but could not overcome 18 percent shooting in the first two quarters.
Covenant will host Huntingdon on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Barnes PE Center.
