SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant track and field teams wrapped up the indoor season in style with strong performances at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on Friday night.

The women's team placed third overall with 79 points, while the men's team was fourth in the meet with 59 points.

The women's side saw three program records fall, and another program mark tied, and the Scots took four first place finishes in the meet. The men's team had a pair of field records broken and totaled two first place marks.

Elysse Carrillo and S.K. Lipperd had outstanding meets on the women's team. Carrillo broke her own program record in the 400 meter and won that event with a time of 1:02.74, topping her previous mark by over one second. Carrillo won both 400 meter events she competed in during the indoor season. Lipperd took first in the 800 meter event with a time of 2:32.66, marking her second individual title this year.

Together, Carrillo and Lipperd paired with Virginia Kay Roberts and Maggie Henry to a program record time in the 4x400 relay at 4:21.24, 11 seconds faster than the previous top mark. The time netted the group first in the event.

Claire Mackes tied Hannah Hennigh's program time in the 55 meter at 7.85 in a preliminary run. Mackes also ran a season-best 29.15 in the 200 meter.

Covenant had the top two finishers in the mile run as Michelann Settle bested the field with her time of 5:42.53, while Henry was second at 5:43.88. In field events, Anna Baker placed sixth in the long jump at 4.02 meters and seventh in the triple jump at 8.98 meters, topping her own program record in the triple jump.

Men's program records fell in two field events. Michael Rawlings beat his own program record in the shot put with a distance of 10.34 meters, while Cooper Hayes also bested his previous program record in the pole vault at 3.65 meters and placed second overall.

Distance events were a strength of the men's team as Covenant took home individual titles in both the mile and 3,000 meter events. Jonathan George took home the mile title with a time of 4:39.40, while Micaiah Allison finished second at 4:40.69. In the 3,000 meter, Benjamin Jones collected his first career win with a time of 9:29.67.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Ben Tyson, Karl Ferda, Evan Zietlow, and George finished second overall with a time of 3:45.63. Earlier in the meet, Tyson placed seventh in the 200 meter at 24.39 and 11th overall in the 400 meter with a time of 55.20.

The outdoor season opens on March 7 at the Victor Icebreaker Duals, hosted by Berry.
