Track & Field Excels at Berry Field Day Invitational

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Five program records fell as the Covenant track and field teams competed at the Berry Field Day Invitational over the weekend at Valhalla Stadium in Mount Berry.

The men placed 11th overall with 19 points, while the women were 13th in the field with 15 points.

The men's team collected three program records in the meet. William Bryan set a season-best in the 400 meter event with his time of 49.48 that placed him second overall as he tallied eight points for the Scots. In the same event, Stephen Cone set a personal record with a time of 52.63. 

Bryan was also involved in another program record time as the 4x100 team of Stefon Bright, Bryan, Joshua Pace, and Caleb Masters clocked in at 44.39 for a seventh place finish. In the 200 meter, Bryan had a season-best time of 22.52 and placed 11th.

The other two program-best marks came in field events. Michael Rawlings upped his own program record in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.68 meters. Rawlings finished fifth overall and took five points. Cooper Hayes also bested his own mark in the pole vault as he cleared 3.48 meters.

On the women's side, S.K. Lipperd and Lilly Smith were part of two program records. Lipperd finished fourth in the 800 meter and topped her own program record with a time of 2:20.51, while Smith set a personal record in the same event with her time of 2:22.81 and placed sixth. Lipperd and Smith were part of the 4x400 team, along with Virginia Kay Roberts and Maggie Henry, that set a program record time at 4:19.84 and placed sixth.

Smith had a strong showing in the 1500 meter on Friday as she placed sixth with a time of 4:47.00, less than a second off her program record pace. Hannah Samuels set a personal best time in the same event at 5:07.77, while Henry came in at 5:09.54. Roberts set a personal record time in the 200 meter event as she finished in 28.84.

In the men's 1500, three runners set personal best times as Micaiah Allison led the Scots with his personal record time of 4:11.60 and 16th place finish. Matthew Tueller (4:17.80) and Matt Seitz (4:22.02) also had personal best marks.

Covenant posted strong marks in the men's 800 meter on Saturday. Jonathan George had a personal record time of 1:58.91 and placed ninth overall. Brendan Yeager came in at 1:59.82, while David Gaffin was at 2:00.31 and Le Mahieu at 2:00.47. 

Other men's highlights of the men included Bright's season-best mark of 6.14 meters in the long jump as he placed eighth. Masters set a personal record and top season time for the Scots in the 100 meter dash at 11.46.
