Smith, Lipperd Collect USA South Track Weekly Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant women's track and field senior Lilly Smith was named USA South Track Athlete of the Week, while freshman S.K. Lipperd earned Rookie Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

The weekly honors for both athletes are the first on the track. This week marked the first weekly honors by the USA South in the sport of track and field.

Smith, a senior from Weaverville, N.C., competed in three events at the Victor Icebreaker Duals on March 2. The senior placed third in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:50.79, the second fastest time in program history, and finished fourth in the 800 meter with a personal-best time of 2:23.43. Smith also ran a leg in the 4x400 relay as the Scots placed 11th with a time of 4:30.22.

Lipperd, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., set a program record in the 800 meter with a time of 2:21.16 to place third overall. The freshman was also a part of the 4x400 team that placed 11th with a time of 4:30.22.

Covenant will be back in action this weekend at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. Events begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
