MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- The Covenant track and field teams opened up the outdoor season on Saturday at the Victor Icebreaker Duals, hosted by Berry College at Valhalla Stadium.
The dual meet format meant that no team rankings were accumulated for the meet. Covenant saw four individual program records fall in the meet.
Three of those program records came on the men's side. Brendan Yeager continued his strong runs in the 800 meter from the indoor season to the outdoor track as he came in ninth overall with a program-best time of 2:00.74. In the same event, Leif Le Mahieu put together a personal record time of 2:01.26 to place 12th.
In the 1500 meter event, Jonathan George finished in a program-record time of 4:12.90 and was 19th overall.
Michael Rawlings topped his own program record in the javelin throw as he finished sixth in the event with a distance of 43.26 meters.
Matthew Tueller was 19th overall in the 5,000 meter run with the second-fastest time in program history at 16:00.93, while Matt Seitz was 27th with a time of 16:20.87. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Micaiah Allison was sixth with a time of 10:31.04, the third-fastest mark in program history.
On the women's side, it was the 800 meter record that was broken. S.K. Lipperd placed third in the 800 with a program-best time of 2:21.16, while Lilly Smith was fourth in the event with a personal record time of 2:23.43.
Smith also finished third in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:50.79, while Maggie Henry was 13th at 5:13.47.
Michelann Settle set a personal record time in the 5,000 meter at 18:54.88 and was seventh overall. Virginia Kay Roberts also had a personal-best time as she came in 10th in the 400 meter at 1:03.88. The 4x400 team of Roberts, Lipperd, Smith, and Anna Walter finished in 4:30.22.
Covenant also had athletes compete in events for the first time in program history. Natasha Bennett competed in the women's javelin throw and had a distance of 26.75 meters.
