Records Fall in Indoor Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A total of 10 program records fell for the Covenant track and field teams in the indoor season finale at the Southern Indoor Challenge on Monday inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Six records on the men's side came down, while four women's records were set.

Relays and distance events were the strength of the men's team on Monday. Program records fell in the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter events, while relays teams in the distance medley and 4x400 also set new marks. Micaiah Allison set a program record in the 3,000 meter event as he finished in a time of 9:25.16 to place 13th overall, while Matt Seitz was not far behind at 9:33.67 to place 16th. In the 5,000 meter run, Matthew Tueller placed 12th in the event with a program-best time of 16:00.99. 

In relay events, the Covenant team of Leif Le Mahieu, William Wallace, Brendan Yeager, and Jonathan George set a program mark in the distance medley at 10:53.10 to finish second overall. In the 4x400 relay, it was Wallace, Ben Tyson, David Gaffin, and Le Mahieu combining for a time of 3:41.14, also a program record.

Before aiding the DMR team to a program record, Yeager set a program mark on his own in the 800 meter with a time of 2:00.47 and a ninth place finish. Gaffin had a strong run in the 800 as well as he came in at a time of 2:02.64. 

In short distance, Caleb Masters set a program mark in the 60 meter dash at 7.41, while Wallace had a personal-best in the 400 meter at 55.63.

It was a similar story for the women's team as distance and relays had strong showings.

Lilly Smith finished second overall in the 5,000 meter run with a program-record time of 18:07.06, while Hannah Samuels set a personal-best in the event at 20:02.81. Smith was also a part of two relay teams that set program records. The distance medley team of Maggie Henry, Virginia Kay Roberts, S.K. Lipperd, and Smith won the event with a program-best time of 12:49.98. In the 4x400, Smith was joined by Roberts, Anna Walter, and Lipperd to run a time of 4:32.14, also a program record.

Lipperd had another strong 800 as she broke her own program mark with a time of 2:25.54 and placed second overall.

Michelann Settle ran the 3,000 meter event in a time of 11:09.19 to finish seventh. Henry was 11th in the mile run at 5:40.28, while Roberts ran a personal-best time in the 400 meter at 1:05.26.


Covenant will open the outdoor season on March 2 at the Victor Icebreaker Duals, hosted by Berry College.
