ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant track and field teams opened up the outdoor portion of the season on Saturday at Berry's Victor Icebreaker Duals. Matched up with Oglethorpe and Piedmont on the men's side and those same teams along with West Georgia on the women's side, Covenant fared well in the event.
On the women's side, Covenant got points from three runners in the 5000 meter run as Hannah Samuels, Michelann Settle and Caroline Pepper finished 6-8 in the event. Samuels was sixth with a time of 20:13.67, Settle was seventh at 20:48.93, while Pepper was eighth at 21:01.8.
In the 1500, Margaret Fitch picked up points as she finished seventh with her time of 5:21.71. Fitch also finished just outside the scoring in the 800 meter event as she placed ninth with a time of 2:41.46 to pace the Scots.
On the men's side, Micah Sneller placed 12th in the 5000 meter event with a time of 16:28.41, while Matthew Tueller was 18th in the 32-participant field at 16:47.84. Sneller also paced Covenant in the 1500 with his time of 4:30.73.
Kyle Delk had the highest finish for the men with his fourth place mark in the long jump at 6.30 meters, while Mason Gregoire was ninth at 5.73. In the 400, Ryan Seay led the Scots with his time of 52.84 and Tristan Dunlavy was not far behind at 53.17. The 4x400 relay team of Dunlavy, Reed Vaughn, John Owen and Seay finished seventh with a time of 3:41.35.
Covenant will travel to Atlanta for the Emory Invitational on March 17-18.
