SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant track and field programs officially got their start on Saturday at the Tiger Indoor Invitational, hosted by Sewanee. The Scots fared well in their inaugural meet with the women placing seventh with 19 points, while the men were ninth with 20 total points in the event.
The meet was the lone indoor event of the winter for the programs. Covenant will begin the spring outdoor season in March.
Smith was also part of the distance medley team along with Margaret Fitch, McKinzie Hummel and Anna Porch that finished third overall with a time of 14:00.98. Porch was 10th in the 400 meter with a time of 1:04.64 and Fitch was 11th in the one-mile at 5:50.97. In the 200 meter dash, Hannah Hennigh scored for Covenant with a sixth place finish after a time of 28.71. Porch
Mason Gregoire got the men's team on the board with a fifth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.38m/20-11.25. Gregoire also scored for the Scots in the 200 meter dash with his time of 24.34 that placed him fifth overall.
Micah Sneller and Matthew Tueller each finished in the top five in the 3000 meter run. Sneller was fourth with a time of 9:42.77, while Tueller was fifth at 9:50.24. Caleb Keitt finished 11th in the one-mile run with a time of 4:57.71. Ryan Seay was seventh and Tristan Dunlavy ninth in the 400 meter event with times of 55.10 and 56.11, respectively.
In the men's distance medley event, Keitt, Reed Vaughn, Dunlavy and Sneller finished third overall with a time of 11:34.76.
Covenant will begin the spring outdoor season on March 4 at Berry's Victor Icebreaker Duals in Rome, Ga.
