ROME, Ga. -- Covenant softball sophomore catcher Faith Manning was named to the USA South All-West Division second team, while freshman Cassee Wood was the Scots' representative on the All-Sportsmanship team, as the conference unveiled its season awards on Thursday.

All awards are voted on by the softball coach at each institution. The divisional team voting is completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The first team all-conference and individual award voting is completed by all coaches.

Manning, a sophomore from Eastman, Ga., earns her first career all-conference selection. The sophomore is currently batting .330 and is second on the team in RBIs (14), slugging percentage (.407), on-base percentage (.407) and walks (11). Manning has played and started in all 33 games on the year, including 32 starts at catcher. She is one of two Covenant players to tally four hits in a game this season as she accomplished the feat in a win over Agnes Scott on March 27. Manning has seven multi-hit games on the season.

In conference play alone, Manning led the Scots with a .426 average and 11 RBIs to go along with a slugging percentage of .511 and a .473 on-base mark.

Wood, a freshman from Conyers, Ga., was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team. Currently in her rookie season, Wood is hitting .282 and leads the team with two home runs to go with 12 RBIs. Wood hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning of a 6-5 comeback win at Judson on March 9. In conference action, Wood hit .324 over 12 games.

The USA South named Pfeiffer senior Vada Blue Sherrill as the conference's Player of the Year and Maryville sophomore Katlyn Smith the Pitcher of the Year. Salem's Brianne Coleman earned Rookie of the Year, while Averett's Hannah Thompson was the Rookie Pitcher of the Year. N.C. Wesleyan head coach John Brackett was the league's Coach of the Year.

Covenant (11-22, 6-10 USA South) opens the USA South Tournament first round series today at Piedmont. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
