LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant softball team dropped a pair of contests to USA South foe Pfeiffer on Saturday. The Scots fell in game one, 8-0, before suffering a 9-0 defeat in the finale.
Even though the two teams are USA South members, the games do not count toward league standings. Covenant drops to 2-5 on the year, while Pfeiffer remains unbeaten at 6-0.
GAME ONE: Pfeiffer 8, Covenant 0
Covenant had just three hits in the game and Pfeiffer scored in every inning to come away with the 8-0 victory in five innings.
The visiting Falcons scored twice in the first and three times in the second inning to open up a 5-0 lead. Pfeiffer then added single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
Kyndle Wallace (1-0) got the win in relief for the Falcons after going two scoreless innings. Five different Falcons had two hits apiece as Pfeiffer totaled 13 in the victory.
GAME TWO: Pfeiffer 9, Covenant 0
Pfeiffer opened up a close game with a four-run fifth inning and pulled away for a 9-0 win to complete the sweep.
The Falcons led 2-0 entering the fifth inning, but scored four runs in that frame, highlighted by Kari Westerbeek's three-run homer, to go ahead 6-0.
Kiana Millsaps (3-0) received the win for Pfeiffer in the circle after tossing five innings.
Covenant will travel to face Judson (Ala.) on Saturday, March 9 for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 12 p.m. CST (1 p.m. EST).
