LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Pitching remained strong and the Covenant softball team celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of Agnes Scott on Saturday afternoon. Covenant collected its second shutout in the last two days with a 9-0 victory in game one and then held on for a 4-2 victory in the finale.

Before the games, Covenant honored its seven seniors, Kathryn Andrews, Shade Epes, Tyler Epes, Cris Gant, Jami Johnson, Joni Johnson, and Shannon Schmitt, for their efforts and contributions to the program. All seven players are four-year members of the program and helped the Lady Scots to a program-record tying 22 wins last year and another solid year this season.

Covenant (17-17, 6-6 USA South) climbs back to the .500 mark overall and goes to 14-6 all-time against Agnes Scott (3-19, 0-8 USA South).

GAME ONE: Covenant 9, Agnes Scott 0

Covenant made quick work of the visiting Scotties by building an 8-0 lead after two innings and cruising to the five-inning, 9-0, victory.

It was the second shutout for the pitching staff in the last two days. Cris Gant made the start on Senior Day and picked up the win. Gant (1-3) allowed one hit and struck out three over her three innings of work. Carsyn Stone and Joni Johnson each tossed scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Covenant took advantage of eight walks by Agnes Scott pitchers and scored four runs in both the first and second innings. Shannon Schmitt doubled home Joni Johnson in the first to crack open the scoring. After Shelby Ralston had an RBI ground out, Erika Mast delivered a two-out, two-run single to right field that scored Jada Allmon and Kathryn Andrews to make it 4-0.

In the second, Schmitt collected her second RBI of the game when she singled home Shade Epes. With two outs and the bases loaded, Tyler Epes drove one to left-center field for a double that cleared the bases and gave Covenant an 8-0 lead.

The Lady Scots tacked on another in the fourth on Casey Grover's RBI ground out that scored Hannah Talley.

Covenant out-hit Agnes Scott 6-4 in the contest. Schmitt was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, while Tyler Epes finished 1-for-1 with a walk and three RBIs. Schmitt's hits in game one extended her hitting streak to eight. She would collect a hit in game two to make it nine straight games with at least one hit.

Agnes Scott starter Tiara White (0-4) got the loss after allowing four runs in her one inning of work. Four different Scotties recorded a hit apiece.

GAME TWO: Covenant 4, Agnes Scott 2

Covenant again took an early lead in game two and then had to hold off an Agnes Scott rally late for a 4-2 victory and a doubleheader sweep.

Pitching was strong again for Covenant as Tyler Epes made the start and threw three scoreless innings, while scattering four hits. Stone (5-6) came on in relief and picked up the victory after going the final four innings and giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Covenant got a run in the first after Jada Allmon drove home Schmitt with an RBI single to right-center field. The Lady Scots were back at it in the third when Schmitt doubled home Madyson Gibbins. Allmon came through once again as her two-out single to right field scored Schmitt from second to make it 3-0.

Agnes Scott climbed to within a run after scoring twice in the sixth. A one-out RBI single from Cecilia Siegel drove in the Scotties' first run and Caitlin Weaver lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field to drive in Alexei Young to make it 3-2. Stone got out of further damage by getting Nicole Gilkeson to ground out to end the inning.

Covenant added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth when Weaver uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Gibbins to scamper home. Agnes Scott got a runner on in the seventh, but Stone sealed the win with a fly out and a ground out to end the contest.

Allmon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Weaver (1-7) received the loss for Agnes Scott after tossing six innings and allowing four runs on nine hits. White finished 2-for-3 to lead the Scotties offensively.
