Softball Adds Three to 2017-18 Recruiting Class

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant softball program has announced the addition of three newcomers for the 2017-18 year. Emma Giller, Grace Turner and Faith Manning have committed to Covenant College with the intent to play softball under head coach Christine Engbers.

Emma Giller - Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte Christian School

Giller played four seasons of varsity softball at Charlotte Christian and was also a member of the basketball team. During her career on the diamond, Giller hit .376 with 11 doubles and 29 RBIs, while playing catcher and the outfield.

Academically, Giller is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the honor roll each year in high school. While at Covenant, she plans on pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with the intention of becoming a physical education teacher and coach in the future.

Giller said she chose to attend Covenant because she loved the community and atmosphere on campus. "Emma is a great kid and a huge win for us," said Engbers. "She brings a competitive mindset and desire to learn and grow as a softball player and a sister in Christ."

Grace Turner - Marietta, Ga. - Compass Prep Academy

Tuner has played pitcher, first base and third base for Premier Fastpitch for the last two years. She brings a dedicated, hard-working and competitive mindset to the Covenant program. Turner is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She plans to major in Sport Administration with a Coaching minor at Covenant. Turner wants to become a college softball coach and spread the knowledge of the game around the world.

"I chose Covenant because I knew from the first time I went on campus that God wanted me to be here," said Turner about her decision. "I fell in love with the people, the powerful Christian environment and the challenging academics."

"Grace has been on our radar at Covenant for as long as I can remember," Engbers added. "Being able to add her to our program will help us grow not only on the field, but academically and spiritually as well."

Faith Manning - Eastman, Ga. - Dodge County High School

Manning attended and played four years of varsity softball at Dodge County High School. Throughout her career at Dodge County, Manning contributed to several high team finishes, including a Sweet 16 appearance. As a senior, Manning has a .341 batting average with 16 RBIs and 29 runs scored. During her four years, she was a two-time All-Region selection, an All-State honorable mention in 2017 and All-Middle Georgia honorable mention in 2015.

Academically, Manning was a member of the Beta Club all four years and will be an honor graduate later in May. She plans to major in Biology at Covenant. "I was so comfortable with all of the beautiful surroundings and people," said Manning about her decision. "The first time I visited Covenant, I knew it was where I wanted to be."

"Faith adds an element of speed and aggressiveness, as well as a team-first mentality," Engbers said. "She will strengthen our program in the infield and behind the plate."
