LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant softball team rallied from a game one loss to earn a split at USA South foe LaGrange on Wednesday afternoon. LaGrange took game one 4-0, but Covenant took a 6-1 victory in the doubleheader finale.

Covenant goes to 9-5 overall on the year and 3-1 in league play. LaGrange is now 3-11 on the year and 2-4 in the USA South.

GAME ONE: LaGrange 4, Covenant 0

LaGrange scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for a 4-0 victory in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Covenant put five runners on base through the first three innings, but could not get a run across against LaGrange starting pitcher Chelsea Twardoski. The Lady Scots totaled three hits in the top of the first as Madalyn Ames, Shannon Schmitt and Jordan Brett all singled, but Twardoski worked out of the jam without allowing a run.

Covenant's next best chance to score came in the top of the fifth. Kaitlyn Sirmons and Madyson Gibbins put together consecutive singles to start the frame. Two batters later, Twardoski snagged a line drive off the bat of Erika Mast and doubled off the runner at second to end the Lady Scots' threat.

LaGrange got on the board in the fourth when Adrienne Little doubled home two runs giving the host Panthers a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Emily Barrs hit a two-out, two-run homer to left field giving LaGrange a 4-0 edge.

Carsyn Stone (2-3) went six innings in the circle for Covenant allowing four runs on seven hits. Stone walked four and struck out three. Schmitt and Gibbins both went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Ames, Brett and Sirmons collected a hit each.

Twardoski (3-4) gets the win as she threw five scoreless innings with two strikeouts and six hits allowed. Emily Cauldwell came on for two shutout innings to secure the win. Barrs and Little had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

GAME TWO: Covenant 6, LaGrange 1

Cris Gant tossed four scoreless innings and the Covenant offense provided some timely hits to come away with a 6-2 victory and a split in the USA South doubleheader.

After Gant worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first, Covenant seized a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second. The Lady Scots had just one hit in the inning as Shade Epes loaded the bases with her single to left field. Jami Johnson delivered an RBI ground out before a wild pitch allowed Erika Mast to score from third to make it 2-0.

In the third, Covenant added to its lead with two more runs. Schmitt doubled home Ames, who had singled to leadoff the frame, before Mast brought home Schmitt with an RBI single to give the Lady Scots a 4-0 lead. The margin extended to 6-0 in the fifth when Sirmons drove in Epes with a single after a passed ball had enabled Mast to score making it 6-0.

Gant (3-1) allowed just two hits and one walk in her four innings of work. The right-hander struck out six to pick up the win. Sarah Huskey and Joni Johnson combined for the final three innings.

Mast, Epes and Sirmons all had two hits apiece for Covenant. The Lady Scots out-hit the Panthers 11-3 in the contest.

Lea Ann Porter (0-1) got the loss for LaGrange as she started and lasted just 1.1 innings. Barrs provided the only run for the Panthers with her solo home run in the sixth inning.
