FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant softball senior third baseman Jordan Brett has been named the USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending March 5, 2017, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
The player of the week honor is the first for Brett, and her first weekly honor from the USA South since garnering a rookie of the week award in her freshman year in 2014.
Brett, a senior from Swainsboro, Ga., went a combined 9-for-14 (.643) with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.143 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, seven RBIs, one double, two home runs and one stolen base as Covenant went 4-0 last week. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Wesleyan, Brett was a combined 4-for-6 with four runs scored, one run batted in, one double and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of Berea on Saturday, she was a combined 5-for-8 with four runs scored, six RBIs and two home runs.
On the year, Brett is batting .472 with three home runs, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored. She has tallied four multi-RBI games and is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak.
The senior is also closing in on a few career marks. Brett is four RBIs away from becoming the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career runs batted in. She is also just 19 hits shy from the program's career record set at 177 by both Morgan Lane and Beth Harris. Brett already holds the program's career doubles record and came into the year with the top batting average in the 10-year history of the program.
Covenant (8-4) will travel to face LaGrange in a USA South doubleheader on Wednesday.
