LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Madyson Gibbins, a senior at Hillgrove High School (Powder Springs, Ga.), has committed to attend Covenant College and play softball for head coach Sara Russell starting in the fall of 2016.
Under coach Laura Voyles, Gibbins has played the previous three varsity seasons as an outfielder and at second base for Hillgrove and she is currently hitting .388 on the year. Additionally, Gibbins has played with the Georgia Fire travel team, under coach Evan Johnson.
Outside the diamond, Gibbins has excelled in the classroom and plans to major in Elementary Education Early Childhood at Covenant.
"I chose Covenant because it truly felt like home," Gibbins said about her decision to attend Covenant. "Every time I visited, and even through the admissions process, everyone was very friendly and worked to make sure I was involved. Between the amazing scenery and people, there is nowhere else I'd wish to spend the next four years."
Gibbins added, "Covenant softball is everything that I want in a team. I really liked how the coaches truly care about the girls on and off the field. From the first day I went up for a camp, I knew this is where I wanted to go. I was able to talk to some of the girls on the team and the coaches and got to really know them in a way I would not have gotten anywhere else. After that, I knew this is the team I wanted to play for and the family I wanted to call mine for the next four years."
Gibbins shared what she will bring to Covenant's softball program, "I am extremely dedicated and I hope to bring not only that but my love for the game to the team."
Russell, along with the team and coaching staff, are pleased to have Madyson Gibbins join the Lady Scots in 2016.
