FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant softball senior Madison Quirk and sophomore Shannon Schmitt were selected to USA South All-Conference softball teams, announced the league on Wednesday afternoon. Quirk earned second team honors, while Schmitt was a honorable mention choice.
Sophomore Kat Andrews was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Quirk, a senior from Athens, Tenn., earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career. The senior is currently hitting .354 with two home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 runs scored while patrolling center field for the Lady Scots. Quirk has produced 10 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games and had a hitting streak of nine games at one point during the year. She had a career-high five RBIs in a victory over Mary Baldwin (March 11). Defensively, Quirk has five outfield assists on the year.
Schmitt, a sophomore from Clermont, Fla., leads the team in hitting with a .410 average to go along with two home runs, 25 RBIs and 27 runs scored. The sophomore is coming off a week in which she was named USA South Player of the Week after batting .625 with a home run and seven RBIs. Schmitt drove in a career-high six runs in Covenant's 9-5 victory over Huntingdon last Saturday (April 9).
Andrews, a sophomore from Ocala, Fla., has appeared in six games in the circle and has an 0-1 record with a 4.50 ERA. In the batter's box, Andrews is hitting .400 in 18 games with nine RBIs and two doubles.
Averett's Jessica Long was named the conference's Player of the Year, while teammate Mary Beth Smith was the Pitcher of the Year. Piedmont freshman Hannah Hoban was selected as the Rookie of the Year and Piedmont's Melissa Eckman was the Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Maryville head coach Leah Kelley picked up Coach of the Year honors.
Covenant (17-20-1) concludes its season on Wednesday, April 20 with a doubleheader against Agnes Scott on Lookout Mountain.
