LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Starters Carsyn Stone and Cris Gant allowed just two runs combined in their complete-game efforts to lead the Covenant softball team to a doubleheader sweep of LaGrange on Friday afternoon. Covenant won game one 6-2 behind Stone's effort before Gant threw a shutout in a 4-0 game two victory.

Covenant moves to 16-17-1 overall and 6-12 in the USA South. LaGrange drops to 13-16 on the year and a 6-12 record in conference play.

GAME ONE: Covenant 6, LaGrange 2

Stone went the distance in the circle, while Jordan Brett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Covenant to a 6-2 victory in Friday's first game.

Covenant got on the board early with a run in the first as Jami Johnson and Kasey Hart pulled off a double steal with Hart taking home and a 1-0 lead.

LaGrange pulled ahead 2-1 in the third on a Dani Gravett two-run homer, but Covenant answered with three runs in its half of the frame. Brett and Joni Johnson had RBI singles and Madalyn Ames capped the three-run inning with a run-scoring single that plated Brett giving the Lady Scots a 4-2 lead.

In the fourth, Covenant extended its lead to 6-2. Morgan Lane drove in Hart with an RBI single and Brett followed with a double to deep right-center field that brought in Lane.

Stone did the rest in the circle for the Lady Scots. The freshman scattered seven hits and had just the one hiccup on the two-run homer. Stone (4-2) struck out four and walked one in her complete-game.

Hart finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk, while Ames also collected two hits in three at-bats with an RBI.

Gravett (7-6) got the pitching loss for LaGrange as she gave up four earned runs on 11 hits in six innings. Gravett went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Brooke Turner was 2-for-3 in the loss.

GAME TWO: Covenant 4, LaGrange

Pitching continued to rule the day for Covenant in the nightcap as Gant tossed a four-hit shutout and Kendall Whann drove in two runs lifting the Lady Scots to a 4-0 win and a sweep.

Gant (5-6) was magnificent as she collected her first career complete-game shutout. The sophomore surrendered just four hits, while striking out five and throwing 103 pitches. LaGrange put a runner on third in the fourth and sixth innings, but Gant worked through both jams to keep the visiting Panthers off the board.

Like in game one, Covenant scored first in its first at-bat. Carlin Labuzan hit a one-out double in the bottom of the first and later scored after a LaGrange throwing error on a Lane pop-up to the pitcher for a 1-0 lead.

Covenant added three runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Shannon Schmitt, Madison Quirk and Brett had consecutive singles to load the bases with one away. Joni Johnson continued the hit parade with an RBI single to right field before Whann drilled a two-run double to left field giving the Lady Scots a four-run lead.

Schmitt went 3-for-3, Quirk was 2-for-3 and both scored a run in the victory. Whann finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Kara Patterson (4-4) gets the loss for LaGrange as she allowed four runs on nine hits. Turner had two of LaGrange's four hits in the contest.
