LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Erika Mast, a senior at Walton High School in Marietta, Ga., has committed to attend Covenant College and play softball for head coach Sara Russell starting in the fall of 2016.
Under coach Ashley Ford at Walton, Mast played the previous four varsity seasons in center field and shortstop. Mast has played with the Premier Fastpitch travel team, under coach Laurie Reed, where her current batting average is .316.
"I chose Covenant because of all the schools I visited I knew it was the place for me," said Mast as to her decision to attend Covenant. "I loved the close community, the beautiful scenery, and the positive vibes I got from the students. I believe Covenant will challenge me on the field, in the class room, and in my spiritual walk with Christ."
Mast added, "I chose Covenant softball because of the relationships I saw between the players and between the coaches. The Russells had a huge impact on me during the recruiting process. They showed a lot of interest in me, not only as a softball player, but also as a student and person."
Mast also shared what she will bring to Covenant's softball program, "I will bring a hard work ethic and strong athletic skills to the team. Most importantly, I hope to bring an overall enthusiasm and love for the game to the Covenant softball program."
Russell, along with the team and her coaching staff, are pleased to have Erika Mast join the Lady Scots in 2016.
