DECATUR, Ga. -- On a cold afternoon turned night in Decatur, the Covenant softball team salvaged a doubleheader split with Agnes Scott in non-conference action. Covenant dropped game one 8-4 before taking game two 3-1.

Covenant moves to 5-4-1 overall while Agnes Scott goes to 2-10 on the year.

With hits in both games, Morgan Lane extended her hitting streak to 10 games. Lane had two hits in game one and has four multi-hit games on the year.

GAME ONE: Agnes Scott 8, Covenant 4

A five-run third inning, highlighted by a pair of home runs, gave Agnes Scott a 5-1 lead and the host Scotties would hold on from there to pick up the victory.

Covenant got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Jordan Brett launched her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. But Agnes Scott used a three-run homer followed by a two-run shot in the bottom of the third to grab a 5-1 lead.

The Lady Scots got a run back in the fifth as Carlin Labuzan scored on Lane's batted ball that was misplayed by the Scotties defense. In the seventh, Land and Madison Quirk had RBI singles to bring Covenant within 8-4 but the Lady Scots could not get any closer.

Covenant starter Joni Johnson (2-2) gets the loss after going 2.2 innings. Tyler Epes went the final 3.1 innings in relief. Lane, Quirk and Joni Johnson all had two hits for Covenant.

GAME TWO: Covenant 3, Agnes Scott 1

Cris Gant tossed a complete-game allowing just one run to help Covenant to a 3-1 victory in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Gant (1-0) scattered five hits and surrendered one run in her outing with five strikeouts. The sophomore right-hander allowed a run in the third inning but proceeded to retire nine of the next 10 hitters she faced.

Like in game one, Covenant scored first as Brett doubled home Kasey Hart with one away in the top of the first. After Agnes Scott got a run in the third to tie the game, Covenant took the lead back in the fourth when Labuzan reached on an error that enabled Shannon Schmitt to score.

The Lady Scots then tacked on one more in the seventh when Lane produced an RBI single that plated Epes.

Hart and Brett had two hits apiece to lead Covenant, which had eight hits as a team.
