LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Carlin Labuzan, senior at Westminster Christian School (Palmetto Bay, Fla.), has committed to attend Covenant College. By accepting the enrollment offer, Labuzan has expressed her intent to become a full-time student and play softball for head coach Sara Russell beginning in the fall of 2015.
Labuzan, a right-handed utility player, started playing varsity for the Lady Warriors and head coach Scott Doan in seventh grade. Her current season's average of .390 only replicates her prior season's performance that helped propel WCS to FHSAA 3-A state championship in 2014. Labuzan plays travel ball for the South Florida Contenders headed by coach Peter Cerda. Under Cerda, she plays third base, shortstop and second base.
Her talents on the field rival her abilities in the classroom. Labuzan's current GPA is 4.46 at WCS.
"I chose Covenant because I believe it is the perfect fit for me. I was looking for a school where I would be challenged academically, be able to strengthen my relationship with the Lord, and play softball and Covenant gives me the opportunity to do all three," Labuzan expressed on why she chose to attend and play at Covenant. "I chose Covenant Softball because the players and coaches seemed to be like a family, and that was something I thought was really special and wanted to be a part of. The Russells have been so supportive of me and genuinely care about me not only as a player but as a person so I couldn't imagine playing for any other team."
Labuzan shared what she will bring to Covenant's softball program, "I hope to bring a positive attitude, contribute on the field in any way I can, and push my teammates to get better each day."
Labuzan plans to major in Elementary Education while at Covenant.
Russell, along with the team and her coaching staff, are pleased to have Carlin Labuzan join the Lady Scots in 2015.
