LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Brie Carmack has been named the full-time assistant softball coach, announced Covenant Director of Athletics Kyle Taylor recently. Carmack becomes the first full-time assistant for head coach Sara Russell.
Carmack comes to Covenant after spending two years as a graduate assistant with NCAA Division I member Eastern Illinois University. While working on her master's degree in Sports Administration, she assisted Panthers head coach Kim Schuette for two seasons from 2013-14. She is in the process of completing her master's degree.
During her time at EIU, the Panthers won the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference championship and finished 2014 with a 38-17 overall record. Carmack had a variety of duties at EIU including working with players on both offense and defense, assisting in camp organization and instruction, and collaborating on other projects.
"I am honored to join the Covenant softball program and very excited to meet the team," said Carmack. "I want to thank coach Russell for this opportunity and cannot wait for the season to begin."
Carmack played collegiately at Jacksonville University. Utilized mainly as a pinch-hitter in 2010, she saw action in 32 contests for the Dolphins, while off the field she also received Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors twice and NFCA all-academic team accolades. In 2009, she finished third on the team in doubles with six and third in RBIs with 17. Carmack graduated in 2011 with a degree in Exercise Science.
After her playing career ended, she spent one season as a student assistant at her alma mater and helped the Dolphins reach the NCAA tournament after Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament titles.
"We are ecstatic about coach Carmack joining our program," said Russell. "With her expertise and drive we are bound to take this program to the next level."
