FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Freshman third baseman Jordan Brett has been named USA South Rookie of the Week, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
Brett becomes the first softball player to earn a weekly USA South honor this season.
The freshman from Swainsboro, Ga., put together a tremendous week batting .684 (13-for-19) with three home runs, eight RBIs and nine runs scored. Brett went a combined 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in two losses at nationally-ranked Piedmont. She then went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs against the USA South's second-place team, Averett. Brett capped the week going 6-for-8 with two homers, four RBIs and six runs scored in a doubleheader split with Mary Baldwin.
For the season, Brett is batting .407 with four home runs and 33 runs batted in. She is tied for third in the USA South in RBIs.

Covenant (11-25, 4-20 USA South) will be back on the diamond on Tuesday at No. 18-ranked Emory in Atlanta. Game one is set to start at 2 p.m.
