LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- After scoring double digit runs in four of their last six games, the Covenant softball team had their bats cooled off on Saturday by visiting LaGrange. The Lady Scots fell in game one 6-3 before falling 2-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Covenant drops to 6-12 on the season and 3-7 in league play with the losses. LaGrange improves to 14-6 overall and 7-5 in the USA South.

The Lady Scots received strong pitching from sophomore Hannah Rogers on the day. Rogers threw the final 2.2 innings in game one and allowed just one hit. In game two, Rogers (2-6) picked up the loss but pitched well going all seven innings and surrendering just two runs on nine hits.

In the first game, Covenant gained an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Chandler Shepherd led off the frame with a triple and scored on Morgan Lane's double to center field. Jordan Brett followed with a double of her own to score Lane that gave the Lady Scots a 2-0 edge.

LaGrange answered with one run in the second on an Alison Jiles RBI single, but Covenant got the run back in the third inning. Madison Quirk delivered a two-out single to right field that allowed Shepherd to score.

The visiting Panthers took the lead for good, however, in the fourth with three runs that was capped by Adrienne Little's two-RBI triple. LaGrange added two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Lane went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in game one, while Shepherd was also 2-for-3 to go along with two runs and a walk. Brett, Lauren Johns, Quirk and Kendall Whann each recorded a hit as well.

Olivia Wolfe (6-2) picked up the win in relief for LaGrange. Wolfe was summoned in the first inning and then completed the game allowing one run on five hits.

In game two, the Lady Scots were held to only two hits, one by Lane and another by Shepherd, as LaGrange completed the doubleheader sweep. LaGrange starter Dani Gravett (4-2) went the distance striking out seven.

After three scoreless innings, the Panthers got a run on the board with Keeley Murray's RBI single that scored Wolfe in the fourth inning. Wolfe added a solo home run in the sixth for the game's only other run.

Covenant will be back in action on Tuesday in Macon. Ga., against Wesleyan. Tuesday's doubleheader is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
