Softball Adds Schmitt for 2014-15

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Shannon Schmitt, a senior at East Ridge (Fla.) High School, has committed to attend Covenant College. By accepting the enrollment offer, Schmitt has expressed her intent to become a full-time student and play softball for the Lady Scots and head coach Sara Russell starting in the fall of 2014.

Schmitt can play a variety of positions including catcher, shortstop, and second base. In her junior year at East Ridge in 2012-13, she batted .444 as her team went 18-8. She also plays travel ball with the Central Florida Outlaws under head coach Tony Ridge.

"I chose Covenant due to its location along with the perfect atmosphere to continue growing in my faith as well as academics," said Schmitt. "I wanted to play softball due to the environment created by coach Russell and her husband. They were so kind and made me feel like part of the family."

Schmitt plans to major in Mathematics with a minor in Education during her time at Covenant.

Russell, along with the rest of the Covenant softball coaching staff and team, are pleased to have Shannon Schmitt join the Lady Scots for the 2014-15 season.
