LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots softball team took on the Tennessee Temple Lady Crusaders in beautiful weather atop the mountain on Tuesday afternoon. Covenant cruised to victory in the first game 17-2. The Lady Crusaders fought back during the second, but Covenant got things moving toward the end to win 7-1.
Covenant scored three runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to Beth Harris' RBI triple and a pair of wild pitches. The Lady Scots then blew the game wide open in the second by scoring ten times. Harris and Chandler Shepherd each had two-run hits, while Morgan Booker and Jenni Jobe also contributed RBI base hits.
Chelsea Krafft (12-6) was given the win, pitching two innings and throwing four strikeouts. Temple's Dakota Wright was given the loss, pitching four innings and 127 pitches.
Harris led the offense for Covenant going 4-for-4 earning two runs and three RBIs, as well as pitching two innings. Cori Hilt went 2-for-4 and was followed by Jobe who went 1-for-2.
The Lady Scots again struck for three runs in the first inning. Harris had an RBI single that scored Jobe and Shepherd drove in the third run of the inning with an RBI fielder's choice.
Temple starter Taylor Decker settled down after that inning as she did not allow a run over the next four frames. Covenant had the bases loaded twice during that time but could not send anyone home to score.
Finally, in the bottom of the sixth, Hilt got the ball rolling by hitting a bases-loaded triple to deep right field, clearing the bases. Hilt eventually stole home to put Covenant in the lead 7-1.
Krafft (13-6) was given another win after pitching four innings and striking out eight in only 58 pitches. Temple's Taylor Decker was saddled with the loss after giving up five earned runs.
Hilt led the Lady Scots offense at 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Seniors Harris and Christine Core both went 2-for-4 during the second game.
Covenant returns to action on Friday with a doubleheader at Point University. Game one is set for 1 p.m. on Good Friday.
