LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The NCCAA announced its softball All-Region team during the Mid-East Region tournament on Monday and three Lady Scots were placed on the 16-player team. Beth Harris, Chelsea Krafft, and Courtney Wagoner were all recognized for their efforts on the field this season.
Harris has produced a powerful bat in the middle of the Lady Scots' lineup this season. The senior from LaVergne, Tenn., hit a GSAC-leading 15 home runs and drove in 53 runs while hitting .435 in 41 games, including hitting two homers in regional play. Harris has had four two-homer games this season as well as 18 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games. In a 10-7 win over Berry on March 27, Harris went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs, and three runs.
Krafft, a senior starting pitcher from Dalton, Ga., has appeared in 35 games this spring and boasts an earned run average of 2.69. The senior has struck out 176 batters in 174 innings of work, while opponents have hit just .251 off her. She also has thrown 19 complete-games with one shutout and assisted in four other shutouts. On March 19, Krafft teamed with Harris to throw a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win against Rust College.
A junior from Cummings, Ga., Wagoner posted a batting average of .406 with four home runs and 31 RBIs this season. She also walked 22 times to have an on-base percentage of .537 which leads the team. Wagoner connected on two homers and drove in five runs in a game against Berry in April.
The Lady Scots softball team will await to hear if they have been selected as an at-large team for the 2012 NCCAA Softball Championship in Botetourt County, Va., May 10-12.
