LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A pair of pitchers are being honored as Covenant Players of the Week this week. Softball player Chelsea Krafft and baseball player Tyler Smith have been recognized for their play during the week of March 5-10.
Krafft, a senior from Dalton, Ga., wins the award for the first time this season. The right-handed pitcher was instrumental in the softball team's sweep of Birmingham-Southern on Saturday afternoon. For the season, Krafft is 2-2 with an earned run average of 2.43 in 29.2 innings pitched.
A senior from Ooltewah, Tenn., Smith is also a first-time winner of the award this season. Smith pitched a complete-game (seven innings) to help the Scots baseball team to a 5-3 win over Ave Maria University. The right-hander allowed six hits and three runs, all earned, while punching out seven batters and walking none.
