LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Freshman baseball player Scott Gillespie and senior softball player Chelsea Krafft have been named the Covenant Players of the Week for the week of March 12-17.
Gillespie had an outstanding four games last week as Covenant went 2-2. The freshman hit .643 with nine hits in 14 at-bats, four doubles, and eight runs batted in. He also walked three times and struck out just once. In the finale of a three-game series at Huntingdon College on Saturday, Gillespie went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and a run scored. For the season, Gillespie is second on the team in batting average at .382 with six doubles and 16 RBIs and a .471 on-base percentage.
On the women's side, Krafft wins the award for the second straight week. Last week, Krafft pitched complete-games in all four of the Lady Scots' contests going 2-2 with an earned run average of 1.32. Krafft pitched 27.1 innings and allowed just four earned runs on 21 hits, while striking out 25 and walking five.
