CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's tennis team swept Maryville, 9-0, on Friday afternoon from the Strang-Voges Tennis Complex on the campus of the McCallie School.
Covenant (9-8, 9-3 USA South) had a quick doubles sweep in reverse order to take a 3-0 match lead.
Sam Jordan and Tristian Smallwood got the match rolling with an 8-0 win at three doubles and Ben Luke and Tyler Kelly quickly followed suit at two. Trey Wood and Paxton Haggerty wrapped up doubles play with an 8-1 victory at the one slot.
Singles play was much the same as the hosts swept all the way, on through six, to finish the match.
Logan Hull got singles play started with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Austin Smith at one. Wood then was able to clinch the match at two singles 6-1, 6-0 in the regular season finale.
Chris Morton defeated Beau Branton 6-1, 6-3 at the three, and Cameron Cortman was victorious over Egan Spoltore 6-0, 6-0 at the four spot. Jordan had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Andre Matamoros at five singles and Smallwood wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Caleb Underdown at the six slot.
Maryville ends the season 0-16 overall and 0-11 in USA South play.
Covenant will travel down to LaGrange, Ga. for the USA South conference tournament beginning on Friday. Opponent and match time will be announced later.
