Men's Tennis Drops Battle To Berry

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 match to Berry on Wednesday afternoon at the Covenant tennis complex.

After doubles play the Scots found themselves trailing 2-1 in the match score.

Ben Luke and Tyler Kelly won the three doubles slot with an 8-3 decision. Trey Wood and Paxton Haggerty dropped one doubles in a tiebreak 8-7 (5). Logan Hull and Chris Morton played their opponents close in a tiebreak but dropped the two doubles spot 8-7 (3).

In singles play Covenant (4-5) forced Berry (3-3) to win the match in the final match of the day.

Logan Hull won the one singles match 6-3, 6-4 to even the match at two. Rory Glatt defeated Haggerty 6-1, 6-3 to give Berry the 3-2 lead but not before Morton knotted things back at four with a 6-4, 6-7 (3) victory over Clay Jones.

Ben Knight won 6-2, 7-5 over Camer Cortman at the five singles flight and Tyler Kelly won by retirement 3-6, 6-2 in the six singles position to tie it up at four.

Jordan Crance came through for the Vikings in the final match of the day 6-3, 6-3 over Ben Luke to clinch the 5-4 victory for Berry.


The Scots take on Berea in a conference contest on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The match has been designated as senior day as the team will recognize Trey Wood as the lone senior on the team.
