BEREA, Ky. -- The Covenant men's tennis team picked up its second straight USA South victory with a 9-0 sweep of Berea on Saturday at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex.
Covenant (2-4, 2-1 USA South) was scheduled to face Transylvania later on Saturday, but the match was postponed due to court conditions.
The Scots faced little resistance from Berea (0-3, 0-2 USA South) on the day. Covenant picked up two default points at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles as Berea had just five players available.
In doubles, Cameron Cortman and Trey Wood held down the No. 1 spot and took an 8-4 win over Michael Malpartida and Dakota Massucco. The Scots completed the doubles sweep as Sam Jordan and Tristian Smallwood were 8-1 winners at the No. 2 position over Juan Chavez Casiano and Sam Slater.
In singles, Covenant clinched the victory with Chris Morton's clean sweep of Slater at the No. 3 flight, 6-0, 6-0. Logan Hull took down Malpartida at the top spot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Ben Luke defeated Massucco by a 6-1, 6-2 final.
Tyler Kelly and Smallwood completed the sweep with wins at No. 4 and 5, respectively. Kelly defeated James Weaver 6-0, 6-1 before Smallwood claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Casiano.
Covenant will return to Lookout Mountain on Saturday, March 9 to face USA South foe Brevard. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
