SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox continued their winning ways in both doubles and singles play, however the Covenant men's tennis team could not overcome nationally-ranked Sewanee in a 6-3 loss on Tuesday evening at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
The loss drops Covenant to 15-4 overall. Sewanee, ranked No. 22 in the latest ITA national poll and No. 6 in the Atlantic South region ranking, goes to 17-4 on the year.
Harvie and Cox combined for their 16th consecutive win in doubles play. Facing Sewanee's No. 1 duo on the day of Jack Gray and Fletcher Kerr, Harvie and Cox took down the Tigers tandem by an 8-3 final. Harvie and Cox are now 18-2 overall in doubles play for the year.
In singles, it was Harvie and Cox that notched wins for the Scots. Harvie collected a 6-1, 6-3 win over Andres Carro at the top spot, while Cox was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Ryan Olps at No. 2. Harvie is now 15-2 overall on the year, including a 14-1 mark in dual matches, and Cox is 16-3 for the season.
That was all Covenant was able to get against the regional power. Logan Hull dropped a tough decision at the No. 3 spot to Alejandro Becker 6-3, 6-2. At No. 4, Taylor Galloway narrowly fell in the first set 6-4, before falling 6-1 in the second set to Aubrey Davis.
Covenant will have its Senior Day on Wednesday against Maryville. Match time is set for 6 p.m., with Senior Day activities for both programs beginning around 5:45 p.m.
