ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Covenant men's tennis team made program history on Saturday with its seventh straight victory after a 6-3 defeat of Brevard at the Asheville Racquet Club.

Covenant (8-1) broke a program-record for longest winning streak at seven, besting the mark of six set back in 2009. The victory also continues the best start to a season in the program's history.

It was smooth sailing for the Scots through the first six completed matches of the day. Covenant swept doubles play before winning the first three completed singles matches to clinch the victory.

Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox combined for an 8-3 win over Brevard's Tom Mittring and Tim Hengst at the top doubles spot. The victory was the seventh straight for Harvie and Cox in doubles and the tandem is now 8-1 together in dual matches.

At the second spot in doubles, Taylor Galloway and Logan Hull put up an 8-5 win over Will Christiansen and David Bumgarner while Paxton Haggerty and Trey Wood swept Florian Peyssonneaux and Jaume Reig, 8-0, and No. 3.

In singles play, the bottom half of the lineup worked to seal Covenant's seventh straight victory. Wood was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Peyssonneaux at the sixth spot to give the Scots a 4-0 match lead. Haggerty then clinched the match with his 6-0, 6-3 victory against Reig at the fourth position as the Scots went ahead 5-0.

Ben Tonkel continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Bumgarner at No. 5. Tonkel is 7-2 in dual matches in singles play. Brevard (1-10) took a win at each of the top three singles spots. Cox fell to Mittring 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1, while Hull and Galloway also suffered close defeats at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Covenant looks to continue its win streak when the Scots travel to face Oglethorpe on Wednesday. The match, a rescheduled contest from March 1, is set for 4 p.m.
