FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's tennis senior Matthew Harvie was named the USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 18, announced the conference on Monday.
The honor is the fourth of the career for Harvie and he becomes the first Covenant men's tennis player this season to earn a weekly award from the conference.
A senior from Grayson, Ga., Harvie went 2-0 in doubles and singles play to help Covenant to a 2-0 record on the week. The senior defeated Belhaven's Mauricio Gonzalez 6-4, 6-2 and then Hanover's Landon Carrico 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday. In doubles play, Harvie teamed with Chris Cox to collect an 8-3 win over Belhaven duo of Mauricio Gonzalez and Joan Soler before besting Hanover's Jonathan Helmers and Dakota Smith 8-2.
Harvie's wins over the weekend gave him 39 on the singles side and 38 for his doubles career in dual matches. Both marks are closing on program records in dual matches.
Covenant (3-1) opens USA South play this weekend on the road against LaGrange on Friday and Huntingdon on Saturday.
