ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season of competition at the ITA South Regional championships over the weekend (Sept. 29-30) in Rome, Ga. All seven returning players for the Scots played in the event.
Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox each tallied a win in the main singles draw. Harvie knocked off N.C. Wesleyan's Richard Gende 6-2, 6-1, while Cox was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Will Thompson of LaGrange. In their second round matches, both Harvie and Cox fell in three set matches.
Also in singles play, Trey Wood notched a win in the Gold Draw with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Belhaven's Tracy Hilaire before falling in the second round. Logan Hull picked up a win in a consolation round with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over LaGrange's Alan Valdez. Trey Wetjen also took a win in a consolation bracket with a 6-4-6-3 defeat of Kai Glass from Guilford.
In doubles play, Harvie and Cox made their way past Birmingham Southern duo Jamie Bekaert and Lee Thompson 9-8. Harvie and Cox would hang with Emory's Hayden Cassone and Jonathan Jemison before falling 8-3. The tandem of Jemison and Cassone would reach the main draw's championship round later in the tournament.
Wood and Hull collected a doubles win in their draw with an 8-2 victory over Trevor McLemore and Caleb Eddie of LaGrange.
