LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Covenant men's tennis junior Matthew Harvie is ranked No. 25 in singles play in the Atlantic South region poll by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as the organization announced its first spring rankings on Thursday.
The ranking is the second in Harvie's career. The junior earned a No. 21 ranking in the March 31, 2016 region poll. Harvie is the only player in program history to earn a region ranking.
The junior from Grayson, Ga., is the reigning USA South Player of the Year and is off to another good start this season. Harvie is currently 10-3 in singles matches, all coming at the No. 1 spot. He is currently on a five-match winning streak and has won eight of his last 10 overall. Harvie is also 4-0 against USA South competition and was the conference's player of the week on Feb. 27.
Although they have not earned a ranking as a team, Harvie and doubles playing partner Chris Cox have been impressive as well. The duo has compiled an 11-5 mark on the year at the top flight.
In the region rankings, Harvie is joined by USA South competitors in Sebastian Sikh (N.C. Wesleyan), RJ Clement (Methodist) and Ioannis Brokakis (N.C. Wesleyan).
