FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Following a weekend in which he picked up four total victories, Covenant men's tennis junior Matthew Harvie has been named the USA South Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26, announced the conference on Monday.
The award is Harvie's first of the season and third for his career. It is the second straight week a Covenant player has garnered a USA South weekly tennis award as Logan Hull captured Rookie of the Week honors last week (Feb. 20).
Harvie, a junior from Grayson, Ga., went 2-0 in singles play and 2-1 in double. The junior defeated Millsaps' Diego Marti-Vertiz 6-3, 6-4 on Friday at No. 1 singles and then Rhodes' Albert Vacheron in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 13-11 on Saturday. Harvie and Chris Cox combined for a 2-1 record at the top doubles spot with an 8-6 win over Rhodes' Andrew Morton and Sean Hogan on Saturday before besting Karthik Garimella and Kristian Lenser of Hendrix 8-1.
On the year, Harvie is 4-2 in singles play and 4-3 in doubles. All of Harvie's singles and doubles matches have been at the No. 1 spots.
Covenant (3-4) will host Oglethorpe on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
