LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's tennis program has added two more commitments, announced head coach John Hirte recently. Tristian Smallwood and Trey Wetjen are set to attend Covenant and join the Scots' program in the fall of 2016.

Smallwood, a recent graduate from Griffin High School (Griffin, Ga.), was a four-year varsity tennis player at Griffin, going undefeated in doubles as a junior, and wrapping up his high school career with a team-best eight wins at No. 1 singles.

"I chose Covenant because of the small class sizes, which are great for hands on learning and because of the amazing atmosphere," said Smallwood on his decision to attend Covenant. "I could just tell that God was working within the school and I wanted to be part of it!"

"Tristian is a genuine, kind-hearted young man who loves spending as much time on the tennis court as possible," Hirte said. "I believe that Covenant is an environment that will allow him to continue to develop his skills on the court and provide a learning environment where he can excel. He's a hard worker with a lot of potential as student-athlete, and I'm thankful he will be part of our team this coming year."

Smallwood plans to major in Computer Science during his time at Covenant.

Wetjen is a recent graduate of Lincoln County High School (Fayetteville, Tenn.). Wetjen was the No. 1 player for high school team at Lincoln County, but suffered from an injury and had to sit out a majority of his senior season.

"I really enjoyed getting to know Trey during the recruiting process," Hirte said. "He has experience playing at the top spot of his high school team and as a USTA tournament player, and I think he'll only keep improving as a student-athlete. He brings another great presence to our team this season, and I'm thrilled that he has chosen to come to Covenant."

"The main factor that led me to come to Covenant College was the people," Wetjen said. "I could just feel that they were genuine in their faith with God, and I saw how close everyone was there. I really wanted to surround myself with that type of atmosphere throughout college.  I'm looking forward to making new friends and begin a new chapter of my life. Also pumped for a great tennis season!"

Wetjen plans to major in Biology at Covenant.
