FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's tennis sophomore Matthew Harvie was named the USA South Player of the Year, while sophomore Chris Cox was a second team selection as the conference announced its postseason awards on Thursday morning.
Freshman Trey Wood was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Harvie, a sophomore from Grayson, Ga., is 13-4, including a 9-1 mark against USA South competition at No. 1 singles play on the year and is currently ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA region poll. Harvie's 13 wins are the second-most for a single-season in program history. In doubles play, Harvie went 11-5 in doubles play with Cox as a partner. Harvie was named USA South Player of the Week on Feb. 29 after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles play on the week.
Cox, a sophomore from Maitland, Fla., earns second team honors after going 11-7 in singles play, 7-3 in the USA South, at the No. 2 position. Cox won 11 doubles matches and was 11-6 on the year. He was a USA South Player of the Week honoree on March 21 as he went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play on the week.
Wood, a freshman from Mount Juliet, Tenn., is Covenant's All-Sportsmanship honoree. Wood won four singles matches on the year.
