LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's tennis team fell to Piedmont 7-2 to open Saturday, but responded with a 9-0 victory over Greensboro to finish off the day at the on campus courts.

Covenant moves to 4-11 overall and 3-5 in the USA South.

In the loss to Piedmont, Matthew Harvie led the way for the Scots as he picked up a singles victory and teamed with Chris Cox for a doubles point. Harvie defeated Nathan Metzger 6-0, 6-3 at the top singles spot. Harvie and Cox combined for an 8-5 win over Nathan and Matthew Metzger at No. 1 doubles.

Covenant got even on the day with a 9-0 rout of Greensboro. The Scots controlled the match from the start picking up three doubles wins before completing the sweep in singles play.

Harvie and Cox took an 8-1 win at the top spot, while Hernandez and Hutchinson were 8-0 winners at No. 3. Connor Shimmel and Trey Wood were ahead 1-0 at No. 2 doubles before a Greensboro injury forced a retirement giving the Scots the point.

Harvie had little trouble at the top singles spot with his 6-0, 6-0 win over Carlos Barragan. Cox was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Justin Kimball, while Wood took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Warren Washington at No. 3.
