RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Covenant men's tennis team snapped its losing streak on Friday with a 9-0 victory over William Peace in USA South action.
The victory moves the Scots to 3-10 overall and 2-4 inside the USA South. William Peace is now 1-8 on the year and 1-5 in conference play.
Covenant started quickly with a pair of doubles victories. Connor Shimmel and Trey Wood combined for a 9-8 (1) win at the No. 1 spot over William Peace's Patrick Ralph and Davis Felts. Dan Madden and Travis Hutchinson notched an 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot.
William Peace only had five available players, so the Scots took default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
In singles play, Matthew Harvie continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ralph at the top position. Harvie is 9-3 on the year, all coming at the top spot, and 5-1 in USA South matches in singles play.
Chris Cox picked up his fifth singles win in a row as he defeated Felts 6-1, 6-1. Wood was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the third flight, while Madden was victorious 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Hutchinson made it a clean sweep with his 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
Covenant will host Oglethorpe on Thursday, March 31. Matches start at 4 p.m. on Lookout Mountain.
