LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox combined to go 6-0 on the day between singles and doubles play, but the Covenant men's tennis team was defeated by USA South foe Averett 6-3 before falling 5-4 to Centre.
The losses drops the Scots to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the USA South.
Harvie and Cox led the Scots at the top of the lineup in both matches. The tandem took an 8-1 victory over Averett's Oliver Lunqvist and James Wright in the first match of the day before besting Centre's Luke Brooks and Ben Hadlock 8-4 in the second match.
In singles play, Harvie won twice at the No. 1 spot while Cox was a winner twice at the No. 2 position. Harvie defeated Averett's Lundqvist 6-2, 6-0 while Cox took a three-set win over Nicolas Quevedo 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Against Centre, Harvie was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Logan Henize and Cox took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brooks.
Harvie is 8-3 on the year in singles play, while Cox has seven singles victories.
Travis Hutchinson notched the fourth point for the Scots in the loss to Centre. The senior grabbed a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Cy Dutton at the No. 6 singles spot.
Covenant travels to USA South foe William Peace on Friday, March 25.
