Regionally Ranked Berry Gets Best of Men's Tennis

ROME, Ga. -- No. 18 regionally ranked Berry defeated the Covenant men's tennis team 7-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Richards Tennis Complex in Rome.

The loss drops Covenant to 2-8 on the year, while Berry goes to 5-2.

Covenant picked up a point in both doubles and singles play. The duo of Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox knocked off Berry's Chase Gooding and Austinn Miller 8-1 at the No. 1 doubles position, but the host Vikings would take the next two doubles matches for a 2-1 match lead.

In singles play, Cox notched his second win of the day by besting Gooding at the second flight by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Harvie took the first set 6-0 in his match with Ryan Miner at the top spot, but would fall in three sets 0-6, 6-2, 10-3. Travis Hutchinson also nearly pulled off a victory before falling in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 6 singles.

UP NEXT

Covenant will host USA South foe Averett and non-conference opponent Centre on Saturday on Lookout Mountain. The Averett match is set for 10 a.m. and the Centre match will start at 3 p.m.
