FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Covenant men's tennis team, under fourth-year head coach John Hirte, has been picked to finish fifth in the USA South, according to the league's coaches in the preseason poll released on Thursday.

Covenant is coming off a 2015 campaign that saw the Scots tie for fifth in the league and earn a trip to the conference tournament. Defending USA South champion North Carolina Wesleyan was chosen to repeat as it garnered 10 of the 11 first-place votes. Methodist, who Covenant defeated last year, was chosen second with one first-place vote while Piedmont and Huntingdon round out the top four.

Hirte, who was named the USA South Coach of the Year in 2015, has top returners in sophomores Chris Cox and Matthew Harvie. The tandem both earned All-USA South honors last season and will again lead Covenant at the top of the lineup.

Covenant (0-1) gets its spring season underway on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Division I Chattanooga.
