FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Coming off an undefeated weekend, Covenant men's tennis freshman Matthew Harvie was named USA South Player and Rookie of the Week, announced the league on Monday afternoon.
Harvie becomes the first men's tennis player to earn weekly accolades from the USA South in program history.
The freshman from Grayson, Georgia, helped lead Covenant to three wins over the weekend, two of which came against USA South competition. In a 9-0 win at Greensboro on Friday, Harvie defeated Zach Passman 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Chris Cox to knock off Passman and Kyle Gatti 9-8 (2) at the No. 1 doubles spot. Harvie also collected two wins in an 8-1 victory at Ferrum as he won 6-0, 6-1 over Taylor Napier and worked with Cox again for an 8-1 win in doubles. Against Lynchburg, Harvie and Cox defeated Andrew Link and Jordan Falinski 8-3.
For the year, Harvie is 3-2 in singles play, all coming at the No. 1 spot, and 4-2 in doubles matches.

Covenant (4-2, 2-0 USA South) will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts William Peace at 10 a.m. and Johnson at 5:30 p.m. on Lookout Mountain.
