GREENSBORO, NC-- The Covenant men's tennis team got back to .500 by turning in a convincing performance in a 9-0 victory over Greensboro in a USA South conference match on Friday afternoon.
Covenant moves to 2-2 on the year, 1-0 in conference play. It is Greensboro's first match of the season as they fall to 0-1 on the year and in conference play.
Two other Scots, No. 1 Matthew Harvie and No. 4 John Granholm each won one of their sets 6-0 and took down their opponents in two sets, while Dan Madden, from the No. 5 spot, won his sets by identical 6-2 scores.
No. 3 singles player Michael O'Brien had the toughest opponent, going three sets with Kyle Gatti before taking the victory 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
The Scots also blanked the Pride in two of their doubles matches, from the second and third spots (O'Brien/Madden and Anderson/Travis Hutchinson, respectively). The No. 1 doubles team, featuring Cox and Harvie defeated Zach Passman and Gatti 9-8 (4-2) in a tightly contested match.
Covenant hopes to carry the momentum from its victory into tomorrow when they travel to Virginia to face Ferrum at 10 a.m. before making the short trip over to face Lynchburg at 4 p.m.
